Minimally-invasive Surgical Procedures

  Before and After Photos

If surgical treatment is required, our first choice is minimally invasive techniques which provide optimum results and offer shorter recovery periods.

The VNUS Closure Procedure
Understanding the VNUS Procedure

Healthy legs contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart. Venous reflux disease develops when the valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased. As a result, vein valves will not close properly, leading to the symptoms of varicose veins.

How it Works.
The Closure procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Using an ultrasound, we will position the Closure Catheter into the diseased vein, through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall. As the RF energy is delivered and the catheter is withdrawn, the vein wall is heated causing the collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to the other healthy veins.

Most patients return to normal activities within 1-2 days.

Transilluminated Powered Phlebectomy (TIPP)

The vein is removed with a small, specially lit surgical device. This quick method requires fewer incisions so recovery is brief with good results.

Sclerotherapy
In Sclerotherapy, a tiny needle is used to inject the vein with a medication that irritates the lining of the vein. In response, the vein collapses. The surface veins are no longer visible and most patients experience symptom relief.

This procedure is painless and symptoms disappear quickly as patients go about their normal daily routine.

Sclerotherapy is usually used to treat smaller varicose veins and spider veins.

Several sessions may be required for any vein region.

Vein Stripping

This procedure removes veins and blood vessels through small incisions. Recovery can be uncomfortable, with bruising and possible nerve irritation.

Subfascial Endoscopic
Perforator Surgery (SEPS)
SEPS is a surgical procedure where blood is redirected to healthy veins, leg circulation is improved and ulcers heal in four to eight weeks.
